Where do the tariff rates come from?

A 15-country x 9-category schedule sourced from the US Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) and USTR Section 301 actions, current as of the latest revision. Mexico and Canada are treated as duty-free for qualifying USMCA goods. Section 301 exclusions and product-specific rulings are not modelled.

How is landed cost computed?

Landed cost = COGS + freight (weight x country-specific per-kg rate, sea or air) + 0.7% insurance on (COGS + freight) + duty (COGS x tariff rate) + customs broker fee ($175 per shipment, amortized across units per shipment, minimum 50 units). All real arithmetic; no LLM is involved in computing numbers.

How are alternative sourcing countries selected?

For each unprofitable product, the tool iterates the 14 non-current countries in the schedule, computes landed cost via the same arithmetic, and ranks by savings-per-unit. The top 2 candidates per product are surfaced. Lead-time, MOQ, and supplier capacity are not modelled and should be validated with a customs broker before procurement decisions.

Is the analysis generated by AI?

Numbers come from the deterministic arithmetic engine. Dana provides the narrative interpretation in the verdict only. Numbers from the table, narrative from the agent.

What does Section 301 mean?

Section 301 is a US trade enforcement statute under which an additional tariff (typically 25% in the schedule modelled here) is layered on top of the base HTSUS rate for a wide range of goods imported from China. The sensitivity tornado covers scenarios where it scales up or down.
